Licensing and Training

Becoming a licensed insurance adjuster can seem like a daunting task at first. It can be a confusing, frustrating and challenging process if you don’t know where to start or decide to do everything on your own.  To receive a certification for a specific insurance company, you will need to attend a training seminar and then pass a test for each specific insurance company you plan to represent.  Independent adjusting firms usually offer this training to the independent adjusters on their rosters.

You will also need to be licensed in the state you will be assigned claims in (some states do not require adjuster licensing).  Be sure to check www.adjusterpro.com to find out state adjuster license requirements.  AdjusterPro is your best resource available for obtaining your first state license.  You can obtain your state licensing classes online for the states of: Texas, Georgia and Florida.  You may then receive all of your remaining adjuster licensing through Sircon.com. To receive your first state license you will need to attend a proctored online class, or physically attend training classes before taking a final exam.  Once you pass the exam, you will then become eligible to be licensed in that state.  AdjusterPro and Insurance Adjuster Help strongly recommend acquiring Texas, Indiana and Florida state adjusting licenses (as these states reciprocate well and are renowned for their re-occurring storms).  Because Texas, Indiana and Florida state licenses reciprocate well, you will not need to take another exam to become eligible for other state licenses and certifications.  Each state has different requirements for adjusting.

***NOTE***  The more state licenses you hold, the more likely an independent adjusting firm will deploy you.

Continuing Education

Continuing education or CE credits are necessary to maintain your state adjusting licenses. Independent insurance adjusters can face serious fines and penalties if your continuing education credits are not maintained.  State penalties and CE requirements vary, however the general fine for not achieving the required CE credits is $50.00 per every deficient hour.  Every independent adjuster, including public adjusters, must earn 30 hours of continuing education per every 2 year period.  Included in the 30 hour minimum an insurance adjuster must earn 2 credit hours related to ethics/consumer protection.  Meaning every year an insurance adjuster must earn at least 15 CE credits with 1 hour being devoted to ethics/consumer protection.  Continuing education courses are offered online and by independent adjusting firms.  You can easily earn all of your CE credits online!  This is something that can be accomplished in a few hours and is the most cost effective way to remain in compliance with your resident state's requirements.
